Two local women die in separate car accidents

In less than a week, two local women have died in car wrecks in Pittsylvania County, one on April 30 and one on April 24.

Around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, April 30, Anita Louise Robertson, 63, of Mount Cross Road was killed when the 2006 Chevrolet Impala she was driving collided almost head-on with a 2016 Dodge Ram full size truck, driven by a 16-year-old male juvenile.
According to Sgt. B.P. Long of the Virginia State Police, Robertson ran off the right side of the westbound lane of Mount Cross Road and then overcorrected, crossing the centerline and striking the Dodge truck.
Robertson died at the scene of the accident, which was about 200 feet east of state road 1523, he said.
A passenger in the Impala, Steven Edward Hiatt, 54, also of Mount Cross Road, was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center.
Neither Robertson nor Hiatt was wearing a seatbelt, and speed and alcohol were factors in the wreck, said the trooper.
The juvenile, who was uninjured, was wearing a seatbelt.
Trooper Eddie Dillard was the officer at the scene.
On the evening of Monday, April 24, Dorothy Scearce, 47, of Chatham was killed, when her vehicle ran off the left side of Kentuck Road, went down an embankment, and hit a tree.
According to Virginia State Police, Scearce, who was not wearing her seatbelt, died at the scene of the crash.
Speed was not a factor in the wreck.
